Why do most Christians worship on Sunday instead of the Sabbath?

Justin Blake asks: Hey there! I'm a Seventh Day Adventist, and was wondering why do most Christians worship on Sunday instead of the Sabbath? Do you not believe in tradition?

Hey, God bless Justin.

Although Seventh Day Adventists denounce Sunday worship, it is in remembrance of the resurrection, that the early Christian Church decided to change worship from Saturday to Sunday. In fact, God himself gave the early church this new pattern of Sunday worship through both, Christ's resurrection on Sunday, as well as the Holy Spirit's decent on Pentecost Sunday.

The Bible also gives us the reason behind the symbol of the Sabbath. In Genesis 2:2-3, we are told that God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating what he had done. So the Sabbath was a celebration of Gods work in creation. Looking forward to the time of the resurrection of Jesus, the emphasis of the Sabbath shifts to Sunday, as it became a celebration of the "rest" we have through Christ who delivers us from sin and the grave (Hebrews 4:1-11). Therefore, Jesus was the fulfillment of the symbol of the Sabbath.

Last but not least, if we are going to follow the letter of the law, according to the Mosaic Law, anyone who does any work on the Sabbath "must be put to death" (Exodus 35:2). That is why Paul states in Galatians 13:3- Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”. Hope this helps, and we will leave you with this:

Colossians 2:16-17 "Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

Comments:

Justin Blake: Well, I was told that Sunday worship was taking the Mark of the Beast.

BRC Hosts Joey and Chris: We hold to the Bible as full authority. So please kindly provide any type of verse that teaches or states that Sunday worship is the Mark of the Beast? If you cannot, you should definitely question what you are being taught. Especially if you hold to the Bible as authority.

Justin Blake: I will speak to my Pastor and find out the verses. Can I dm you with whatever info he gives me, rather than posting on here?

BRC Hosts Joey and Chris: absolutely. Whatever is best for you.

Justin Blake: Ok. God bless.

BRC Hosts Joey and Chris: God bless you as well.

Janice Ortega: Great answer. Thanks for helping people understand better. God bless.

BRC Hosts Joey and Chris: Thanks for the kind words. God bless you too.
